Week 13 (2 - 8 Oct): New Life Journey

Dear TB Family,

The weeks are flying by! I’m grateful for this corporate practice of journaling weekly – there is so much that goes on in each week that is worth documenting. When we look back, these archives will serve as evidence of God’s faithfulness and His gentle hand guiding our church.

On Tuesday, we began our bible study on the book of Hebrews. On Thursday, we celebrated Children’s Day with the kids from our Academic Guidance programme. We also sent our precious brother, Marika, to Lombok on Friday morning.

Last night, at our monthly on-site meeting, Bryan shared his inaugural message with the congregation. It was titled ‘New Life Journey’, representing the journey we embark on with God after we say yes to Him. The Christian life, said Bryan, consists of 3 stages: new beginnings, spiritual maturity, and walking into our destinies. Life throws us curve balls throughout these various stages, but God is our only constant – He is truly our bedrock. He walks with us, and so patiently guides us as we stumble and fall.

How is maturity measured in the body of Christ? Bryan shared that reading our Bible is a fundamental discipline that must be instilled in the life of each believer – it is God’s word that shines light on our identity and our circumstances. We must dwell in His word and let it shape us. Reading the Word (and letting it read us) is a spiritual discipline we must view as even more important than physical sustenance.

As we walk into our destinies, as individuals and as a church, we must also not neglect our intimacy with the Holy Spirit. As Ps Ben, Li Xun, Dylan and I led worship last night, I felt Holy Spirit telling us to not be in a hurry. We must make room for Him to do whatever He wills. In the Kingdom of God, we are only mature to the degree that we are dependent on Him. As we begin the last quarter of the year, may we learn to lean in and stay close to the Holy Spirit. May we follow His leading in every meeting.

Prayer:

As Bryan steps down from youth ministry and begins a new season in his life, we pray for God’s guidance and wisdom to be upon him. May God reveal himself as the Provider of all things! We pray for manifold blessings in the lives of Bryan and Jordan. We also pray for God’s direction as GS and Z step up to oversee the youth ministry. May they be empowered to lead the youth into an unprecedented intimacy with the Lord. Amen!

Signing off,

Lycia (on behalf of RT1)
