Week 14 (8 - 14 Apr): The Sweetness of God's Love

Updated: Apr 17

Our Saturday fellowship is never a disappointment. We are always spoilt for choice when it comes to food! Last Saturday, we had a delectable spread of dinner dishes as well as desserts. Just to name a few sweet treats, we had mango sticky rice, oranges flown in from Jeju, local kuehs, rojak, gula melaka agar agar, and a zesty fruit punch.

Most of us love desserts. We love their sweetness, different textures and delightful colours. They elevate our spirits and encourage social interaction. Desserts give us pleasure and satisfaction, and we are left craving for more of that goodness.

Likewise, God’s gifts to us are sweet and delectable! These gifts are freely given to us when we believe in Him and surrender our lives to Him.

The Chinese group is grateful to Boon Hoe for facilitating our discussion last Saturday, where he shared about the four cornerstones of thought. These cornerstones of thought are like the foundation of a structure; they are crucial because they determine the strength of our 'building' (i.e. our lives and culture).

Here are the four cornerstones of thought:

1) God is good. If God is good, how should we respond? We must trust and believe in his goodness. Our God is the Good Shepherd (John 10:11). He never abandons us or forsakes us regardless of our sins or the size of our faith. When we build our lives on him, when we listen to his Word and put what he says into practice, our lives are blessed by the Good Father.

2) Nothing is impossible. I was reminded of a situation where I needed to transport 50 chairs and could not get transportation. I felt so frustrated and desperate. We prayed and somehow God heard us and sent help! Best of all, I got my transportation free of charge. Nothing is impossible when one believes in faith. Indeed, nothing is too small or too big for God!

3) Jesus' blood paid for everything. Jesus died on the cross and paid for our sins. He has paid the debt for our past and future mistakes. As we sang during worship, thank You Jesus for Your blood applied, saving our lives and bringing us from darkness into glorious light. He had done all redemptive work on the cross once and for all.

4) Each person is significant. Therefore, we should serve well. Everyone is significant in God’s eyes and there is no one who is insignificant in the purposes of God. We are called to serve and no service or position is too low for the children of God. Each one of us is called to co-labour with God. We do not need to have a title to perform what God has prepared for us to accomplish. He equips and partners with us to fulfil His glorious purposes.

As we continue our study of Bill Johnson's The Way of Life, may these four cornerstones of thought truly be the foundation of our thought life.

Thank You Father for offering Your son for our salvation and displaying Your heart in caring for the needs in our lives. Help us to have complete trust in You and be obedient to your Word and your Way. May your Will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Signing off,
