Last Sat was a refreshing time of fellowship for Jacob’s Well. We had full attendance and despite that, there was more food than what we could consume and even enough to feed several more. God is good. We started the session with a time of testimony sharing of how God provided for several brothers and sisters in the last one week when we lifted our requests to God.

“The Lord’s Prayer” is a model prayer that some in the group prayed regularly but alien to some. We sat down as a group to look at the prayer in detail. Its a simple prayer that does not take more than a minute to recite, but the breadth that it covers and the depth that it touches, in that short prayer is mind-blowing.

Addressing God as “Father” raises our faith as it shows the personal and intimate relationship that we have with the Creator of the heaven and earth. Hallowing God’s name shows God's holiness and reverence. One brother in the group had an image of a burger as we went through the verses. The different layers encompass the different roles that Jesus plays in our life. The prayer starts with “Father” which is like the bottom bun of the burger and ends with the top bun of “King”. At the center of these two layers is God being a “Provider”, Redeemer”, “Guide/Deliverer”. The prayer flows from the foundation of love of a Father and goes up to that of the King of a heavenly Kingdom. The prayer is God-centered and shows us how big our God is. It is rich in meaning and flavour and nourishing for the body, soul and sprit.

In the next paragraph, Jesus tells a parable about a friend who asks for bread at midnight and emphasizes the importance of persistence in prayer. We can come to Jesus with the Lord’s Prayer anytime, even if it is midnight. As we persist in prayer like the friend asking for a bread, we will see breakthrough.

We ended the session reading “The Lord’s Prayer” together and an worship song “Seek Ye First”.

Blessings,

Jacob's Well
