Week 17 (29 Apr - 5 May): Ministering the Power of God

Hello, May!

Spring is in its last leg of its season. Not that it’s a cool weather here; the sun has been scorching down its beams on our little red dot. But spring reminds us of new beginnings, and in our journey, God keeps revealing new things to us. Last Saturday at our onsite church service, we learnt 2 things in a down-to-earth fireside chat with Ronnie, conducted by Ps Ben.

1. We are called to love and heal

Ronnie shared his healing testimony that got him curious on how Maureen Onions, who prayed for him, received the power to heal. And it was an immediate healing of the spurs on his heels. Curiosity got him closer to Christ! He followed her and witnessed the power to heal.

The biggest impact Ronnie has seen in Maureen’s ministry is her tremendous love for people. God heals because He loves us.

We are reminded of our calling to lay hands on the sick and they will recover, to cleanse and cast demons out (Matt 10:8; Mark 16:18).

Healing is for everyone who believes in Jesus, our Risen Saviour. We need to exercise this. As disciples, we need to follow His example.

We don’t need to wear a mask or think that we need certs to be qualified. God truly qualifies those He has called! We just need to believe and act out in faith.

2. We are capable of receiving revelation from the Holy Spirit

But first, bag and paper duty! Kidding. But Ronnie did just that for 3 years in obedience and finally one day, he was able to lay hands and pray for someone who had the same condition as he did before - spurs! In faith, Ronnie laid hands, and prayed : “What you did for me, do for him in the name of Jesus!”. The person was healed immediately and went out proclaiming the good news gleefully! Soon, more and more people came up for healing.

Following this, Ronnie pressed in to ask for God’s words of knowledge. It’s as simple as “God, show me how I can touch this person’s life for You?” God revealed new things to Ronnie because He saw the love that Ronnie had for others, and the desire for them to be healed. His heartbeat is aligned to God’s.

But what if healing doesn’t take place?

We are not the healer. Our job is to obey.

We just follow God’s command to lay hands and pray for the person’s healing. The ultimate decision lies with God. So we mustn’t allow the devil to steal, kill and rob your joy!

We liked what Ronnie’s encouragement to all of us to step out in faith: “Life is a mystery. I have nothing to lose so I allow God to nudge me along.”

How much do we allow God to nudge us along in our journey of living life for Jesus?

Ronnie left us with some great tips on our daily spiritual practice.

Before we sleep:

• Ask the Holy Spirit to redeem you for the things that you have done in the day that grieved the Spirit.

• Confess what God reveals to you.

• Repent.

When we wake up:

• Invite the Holy Spirit to fill us.

• Be continually filled with the Spirit all day.

• Do what He says!

Jesus said if you are thirsty, come to Me. Rivers of living water will overflow from your belly. We need the overflow of the Holy Spirit to bring life to people. We can only give what we have.

“Freely you have received; freely give” (Matt 10:8)

So, for us reading this, let us be bold to take that first step. Ask God to help us rise to our calling, increase our desire for the gifts that God has given us, and demonstrate His power in healing through love.

Lord, let us thirst and be hungry for more of You. Let us be conscious of Your presence, our hearts still to hear as we take time to experience You. Nudge us to follow Your lead and may our love for people increase as we step out to obey and heal others so they may see Your glory! Amen.

Have a blessed weekend!

Love,

Belimbing
