Week 1ii (1 - 7 Jan): Behold, I am doing a new thing!

2024 has already been really exciting for us. If our first week is any indication of how the rest of the year will be, we are in for a ride!

Love Letters We started the year with an on-site Love Letters meeting, where we took turns to share our spiritual goals for the year. We thank God that He was indeed in our midst, stirring up our hearts — some of us committed to memorising scripture together, some wanted the gift of prophesy, and others desired to hear the voice of God more clearly. As we closed in prayer, we took turns to release encouraging words and visions over one another. As He does with all our meetings, Holy Spirit showed up! It was certainly an energising start to the year.

Discovery Bible Study We also had the privilege of attending a session by missionaries the Pats, who taught us how to memorise and tell Bible stories in one minute! The story we memorised during the session was that of Jesus calming the storms after being woken up from his nap by the disciples.

When a Sec 4 student expressed her anxiety about her O level results to me over text, I just knew I had to tell her this story! I voice recorded the story and forwarded it to her. To my surprise, she said that it was her first time hearing about God and that the story brought her much comfort. She’s now intrigued to read more Bible stories! Praise God!

6 Jan On-site Ps Ben preached an authentic message on failure on Saturday. Indeed, in our Christian walk, failure is inevitable. There will be times when we pray for others, and the miracles don’t happen. We may begin new projects, but see no fruit. Yet we can hold on to Proverbs 24:16: For a righteous man may fall seven times, and rise again. If we press in and keep going, even our failures can bring glory to God! May we learn to embrace failure as we labour with Him.

Isn’t God wonderful? As we enter 2024, the words that ring in my spirit are ‘kingdom impact’. God is equipping us for His Kingdom work. As we lean in closer to the presence of the Holy Spirit and allow him to live and move through our being, may God use the talents He has given us to impact the lives of those around us. And when we slip and fall, we can run to Him to pick us up. I believe in 2024, we will experience the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in greater measure. We will find Him faithful in both our victories and failures.

May this be our prayer, “Lord, if we think we heard your voice, we will follow. But Lord if your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.” Amen!

Signing off,

Lycia
