December is one of my favourite months of the year. Not just because of the presents (although most of us really like those), but because it holds the promise of shiny, new beginnings. The transition beckons us to reflect on the year we’ve had, and to think about what it is we want for the next.
Reflecting on God’s Goodness
As those of us at the October on-site service would remember, Bryan spoke about embracing the journey God sets us upon, and his candid sharing about the revelation of a new road. We’re so excited for Bryan and J, and wish them all the best in their new season.
In appreciation for his seven years of dedicated service, the youth organised a farewell party for Bryan last Tuesday. LX2 did a wonderful job planning the games (as you can see in this video with all of us playing our hearts out to win — beware to headphone users!)
R and D also made an unforgettable send-off present that he could not help but try on immediately HAHAHA!
Pictured: Us with Bryan and his specially made Christmas tree tee! This season also prompted C, R, G and I to think about how our bond came to be. It is because in every major milestone, we always found strength in lunch meet-ups, study sessions and our noisy all-nighters which took place in many of our homes. Our bond is owed to the leaders who opened these safe spaces for us, as we grew and served together.
Relying on God’s Goodness (for our future!)
So when God asked Aunty Kwee Shan and I what our vision for the youth was, two things came to mind very clearly: unity and warmth. As we prayed, the vision for the next five years began to solidify: Saturday nights are for the youth to burst through the doors, with the sound of conversation and laughter filling the air. They have excitedly come to their safe space where they can talk about everything, knowing that there is unconditional love and care for each other.
It will become a space of prayer, fellowship and joy.
We’re happy to share that we’ll be working with W, who brings so much experience facilitating youth communities. The excitement in our three-person meeting was palpable; there is so much we desire for this community’s new beginning. Please pray with us that God continues to reveal His plans for us, and for His presence to be with us and the youth.
Belimbing’s reflection from last week has led me to realise that this year’s Be A Star is merely a preview of what is to come. God has begun to guide us into new, unchartered waters, further and deeper than we ever could have imagined. May we always remember that He is the vine, and that we are His branches — may we abide in him to bear good fruit (John 15:5). There is nothing that is not within our reach, as long as His presence is with us. God bless!
