Week 3 (24 - 30 July): Growth through Challenges

Hello TBF,

Over the past two weeks, the youths did a two-part series on Worship, facilitated by Wayne Sim. He shared first on what worship is and Who we worship last week. The youths learnt that worship is not just songs and praise. Essentially, the way we live our lives and what we do can be worship unto God. We were challenged then, to commit to 1 change in our lives to reflect that God is worthy, to live a life of worship.

Challenged by God

It was encouraging to see many of the youths pen down this 1 change and sharing it on the group chat. Many of them shared that they wanted to set aside time for God, to read the Bible, and being nicer to others. I was challenged by God to set aside time to pray for my youths, which I committed to. I admit it is not easy because it is not something I do on a regular basis and at times you just do not know what to pray for. I was encouraged by J who shared with me that she has been practicing what Ps Angela have shared during Church Camp journaling workshop and decided to do the same. I did only manage to pray for two youths during the week and had two visions which I will share below.

Saturday Fellowship

Then came the recent Saturday, when we had a youth-only team that led worship for the church over Zoom. The team was led by Z who roped in C as vocalist and Z2 on cajon. E also set up and manage the sound and technical booth. Due to an emergency, I had to excuse myself from service. However, it was heartening to see the youth team keeping calm and running the meeting still. Thank you to B for taking over my seat in running slides and the worship went as well as it could.

One of the things Wayne shared during the session was on the “fear of the Lord”. We were made to reflect on how seriously we take our relationship with God and if God was challenging us to do things differently in living our lives as a worship unto Him. I have been reminded constantly the past week that our lives will not be comfortable because God will continue to challenge us.

Visions

Prayed for Z and felt that the story of Joshua was reflecting her current situation. Encouraged her to be strong and courageous, in her faith and spiritual relationship with God. Entering a new season, there will be many things competing for her attention and time. There will be temptations and influences also. Prayed that she will be courageous to remain strong in her faith and that her relationship with God will not waver nor compete with these influences and temptations.

Prayed for C and saw an image of a pair of wings with one side covering over him, in his room’s study desk. Was led to read and share Psalms 91 and encouraged him that the Lord has always been with him especially in his study room. Reminded him that he can turn to the Lord in his struggles and the Lord will comfort him, shelter him, and protect him!

Prayers

1. Do keep two of our youths, Z and R, who are starting Uni in August in prayer! We pray that they will adapt well into this new environment and be equipped with the strength and wisdom to face the challenges ahead of them! Pray that they will remain rooted in the truth and not be swayed by popular beliefs and practices. And praying that they will be a beacon of light for Christ in their respective faculty and community.

2. Pray for two of our other youths who are taking their National Exams this year (A’s and IB). They are preparing for their mock exams in this period. We pray for their nerves to be calm and for the Lord’s peace to be upon them!

Signing off,

Bryan
