This week's fellowship was particularly meaningful as we explored Luke 5:1-11, where Jesus calls Simon Peter, James, and John to become His disciples. The passage’s themes—trust, obedience, and the transformative power of Jesus’ calling—resonated deeply as we discussed it from various perspectives.
Jo-Ann thoughtfully brought a fish dish, symbolically tying into the miraculous catch of fish in the passage. This added a unique connection to our study, reminding us of the abundance that comes when we trust and follow Jesus, even in moments of doubt or uncertainty.
During our discussion, we examined the passage from three different viewpoints: Simon Peter's, Jesus’s, and James and John's. From Simon Peter's perspective, we reflected on his initial skepticism after a night of fruitless fishing, but also the transformative power of obedience when he witnessed the miraculous catch. From Jesus's perspective, we saw Him not only as a patient and loving teacher but also as one who acts, demonstrating the power of obedience through this miracle. Lastly, through James and John's eyes, we imagined the awe they must have felt, recognising that the man they followed was not just a teacher, but one with divine power and authority.
This session was an active engagement with the passage, allowing us to form vivid images and lasting memories of its lessons. It serves as a powerful reminder of how God calls each of us, even in our daily lives, to trust Him beyond our limitations. It is the call of each and every disciple. It also highlighted the beauty of community, like our fellowship, where we can experience the richness of God’s Word from different perspectives. Through this approach, we are better equipped to share God’s message with diverse audiences, meeting people where they are.
Blessings,
