Saturday was eventful, as we had a baptism service in the late afternoon before our main service in the evening.
We gathered together to celebrate the baptism of Mr Tan and Sheryl as both of them took a step of faith, signifying the new life they have in Christ. Their testimonies were a strong reminder of the new identity we step into as believers. Emily also preached a powerful message in Chinese, affirming that when our old selves die with Him, our new selves will also live with Him (2 Timothy 2:11).
In the evening, Ben shared an inspiring message on Ruth, titled 'Victorious Living'. Ruth's situation was dire and her future looked bleak with the death of her husband. Many of us may find ourselves in similar situations in life and may even be afraid to think of what is to come. However, God often reveals the next step to take and that is enough to walk in faith with Him. Ruth only had one vision: to follow her mother-in-law.
Ruth’s exhibition of godly values also paved the way to a thriving life. Her loyalty to her mother-in-law and the honour she gives to Boaz are values that are seldom seen in the world today. Boaz was attracted to Ruth because of her values and a godly relationship was formed. As we embrace these values, people are attracted to them and it helps open doors to build godly relationships.
What God has in store for Ruth goes beyond her as she went on an adventure of her life, becoming the great grandmother of David and being a part of the lineage of Jesus. As we venture out to where God calls, we too go on an adventure to see what the goodness that God has in store for us.
May His word be a light for our path!
Blessings,
Alvin
